San Vito Lo Capo
San Vito Lo Capo, literally the Cape of San Vito, lieson the north-western tip of Sicily. It began life as a small fishing village at the end of the 1700s and today it is a renowned holiday resort. Both the Arabs and Normans, conquerors and invaders since antiquity, have left traces of their passage here that can still be admired by the visitor. San Vito Lo Capo is in a wonderful area that is the envy of the whole of Italy, and maybe throughout the world, situated as it is between two nature reserves "the Zingaro" and "Monte Cofano". The small town of San Vito Lo Capo has seen enormous development in the tourist sector over the last twenty years thanks to many of the local people who, although once fishermen, builders or farmers, had the the foresight to "look ahead" and "take risks". The fruit of their investment is that many are now the owners of hotels or other tourist structures; they encourage their children to study at the hotel and catering schools in Palermo and Erice so they will learn the skills that tour operators and hotel-owners need in order to provide their guests with the best possible service and the highest standard of professionalism.Today the town of San Vito Lo Capo is able to offer hotels with well-furnished rooms that are equipped with every comfort to ensure that their guestsenjoy an unforgettable vacation. As well as hotels there is also Bed & Breakfast accommodation offering rooms of an excellent standard. For the more demanding visitor there are villas located in places of exceptional beauty surrounded by "natural and unspoilt" Mediterranean vegetation. As well as the amenities described above, apartments, holiday homes, agritourism centres, residences, mini-apartments, restaurants and pizzerias have also been created to provide the visitor wishing to stay in San Vito Lo Capo with even morefacilities. There are also surf, kite surf, and sailing schools and, for those keen on diving, there are centres that organize unforgettable dives in the crystal-clear waters around the area of San Vito Lo Capo. It is also possible to rent boats to get to the wonderful spots along the coast, such as the Gulf of Macari and the Monte Cofano Reserve towards the area of Castelluzzo, or to Lago di Venere and the Zingaro Reserve. Tour operators also provide car hire and transfer services to and from the airports and ports of Palermo and Trapani, as well as organizing daily excursions to other areas of interest, such as Agrigento, Selinunte, Segesta, Mothia, Trapani, or Erice. Instead, for visitors who want nothing more than to relax and get tanned by the warm Sicilian sun, all they have to do is to stretch out on the fine white sand on the beach of San Vito Lo Capo and enjoy this little piece of paradise. |
